Exam Reschedule Request


Students may request to have an examination rescheduled if they have an Exam Conflict. An Exam Conflict is defined as one of the following:

  • Two examinations during the same time period.
  • Three consecutive examinations within a 24-hour period (possible exam times: 9:00, 14:00 and 18:00).
  • An examination on a Saturday or religious holiday that a student is unable to write for religious reasons.
  • Two examinations within a 24-hour period for students that have exam accommodations with the Centre for Accessible Learning.

The conflict will need to first be verified by the Office of the Registrar and then the exam will be rescheduled by the instructor. There is no fee for rescheduling due to an Exam Conflict.



The examination dates are posted on our Important Dates up to 5 years in advance. Therefore, no changes of examination schedules for/by students are allowed except for major extenuating circumstances over which the student has no control (e.g. illness with supporting medical documentation, death in one’s immediate family and similar). No fee is incurred for this kind of rescheduling.

In rare circumstances, an examination may be rescheduled for a $100 fee provided:

  • The rescheduling request must be for reasonable, emergent, and substantial cause*, applied for with details on an Exam Change Request Form. The form must be signed by the instructor teaching the course and approved by the faculty or school dean as well as the Registrar. Faculty may not reschedule exams outside this process.
  • The examination will be rescheduled within the normal exam period.
  • The faculty member must create a new examination of equal difficulty to the original.
  • The deadline for such requests is November 15 for Fall examinations, and March 15 for Spring examinations.

*Example of approved examination rescheduling for a fee: scheduled surgery. 
 Example of non-approved examination rescheduling request: travel schedule (flight home).

**All Exam Reschedule Requests are not official until the completed form is returned to the Office of the Registrar for approval. You can submit your completed form online via the Service Hub
