Step 1: https://www.guard.me/twu

Step 2: Click "current students" 

Step 3: Click "apply for insurance" 

Step 4: Pick "student" and insert your student number and birth date

Step 5: On the next page, you will see coverage dates (you should purchase insurance for 3 months while MSP is being processed). For example: January 8, 2021– April 7, 2021 covers exactly 3 months

Step 6: Fill in the form and click "submit"

Yes, you can click Dependents - TWU | guard.me and learn about how to add dependents. 

No. MSP is mandatory for all eligible persons residing in BC.

You do not need to apply for BC MSP only if you participate in an exchange program or short-term study abroad with your own provided medical insurance during your stay in Canada. And your program is no longer than 6 months.

You might have the option to opt out of Guard.me medical insurance if you already possess sufficient medical coverage. This could include scenarios such as:

• Having active BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) before starting at TWU.
• Holding your own medical insurance to cover the initial 3 months before being eligible for BC Medical Services Plan (MSP).
• Participating in an exchange program or short-term study abroad with your own provided medical insurance during your stay in Canada.

If you see the doctor or nurse in the Wellness Centre on campus, you will first need to pay out of pocket and then make a claim on the Guard.me website.

If you see a doctor outside of the campus, or if you go to the hospital you need to also be prepared to pre-pay for your visit. Make sure you keep all your original receipts in order to submit a claim.

Guard.me is private health coverage meant to bridge the gap for international students who have a 90-day waiting period before being eligible for MSP.

Yes, Guard.me has a service called Mobile Doctor that allows you to speak with a Canadian doctor using your phone, tablet or computer. This is part of your health benefits with Guard.me.
